Jason and Veronica’s surprise proposal at Cradle Mountain had a little bit of everything—and it made their story even more unforgettable.

Planning a surprise proposal from Singapore

Jason and Veronica were travelling to Tasmania from Singapore when Jason contacted me about photographing his surprise proposal at Cradle Mountain.

Planning a proposal from another country can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to keep everything completely secret from the person travelling beside you. There were plenty of discreet messages behind the scenes as we worked through the location, timing and all the little details needed to capture the moment without giving anything away.

When the Tasmanian weather had other ideas

Cradle Mountain is spectacular in every season, but the weather can change incredibly quickly.

As Jason and Veronica’s proposal approached, heavy snow arrived and accessing Dove Lake became uncertain. For a while, it looked as though the location Jason had imagined might not be possible at all.

When you’re travelling from Singapore and have planned such an important moment around one particular day, there isn’t always the option to simply come back another week. We needed to remain flexible, keep communicating and work with whatever Cradle Mountain gave us.

Thankfully, we made it through to Dove Lake—and the snowy landscape waiting for us was absolutely incredible.

The moment he asked

Surrounded by snow, mist and the wild beauty of Cradle Mountain, Jason asked Veronica to marry him.

She said yes!

The nerves and uncertainty leading up to the proposal disappeared, and the two of them could finally relax, celebrate and take in what had just happened.

After giving them a little time to enjoy the moment together, we explored the Dove Lake area for some relaxed engagement photographs. There were beautiful mountain views, plenty of laughter and that unmistakable newly-engaged happiness.

The snow may have made reaching the lake difficult, but it also transformed the landscape into something truly magical. Their photographs don’t just show the proposal—they hold the whole story of what it took to get there.
